- Past Chair of the Intelligent Systems Panel in the ASME DSC Division (2002-2005). Past Vice Chair of the Intelligent Systems Panel and the Sensors and Instrumentation Panel of the DSCD division of ASME (2001-2002).
- Received the annual Dean Kenneth E. Tempelmeyer Outstanding Faculty Research Award for 2004 in the College of Engineering (one of three college wide awards).
- Received the annual Dean Juh Wah Chen Outstanding Research Paper Award for 2003 in the College of Engineering (one of three college wide awards).
- Outstanding Teacher Award in the MEEP department for the 2000-2001, 2002-2003, 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 academic years.

- Currently working on a contract from Caterpillar to develop a 3D ultrasonic position estimation system for motion capture studies for ergonomic design.
- Have funding from biomedical companies (Tyco Healthcare) as part of the Biomedical Research Initiative. Projects include applications in neurosurgery, urology, etc. 2004 - Current
- Starting work on a R&D project for Cook Urological to further develop the kidney stone retrieval device patented at SIUC.
- Worked for the Center for Advanced Friction Studies (CAFS) that is a million dollar per year center funded by the NSF, the State of Illinois and 10 companies interested in brakes and brake materials (including Boeing, Honeywell, ABS, etc.) March 2003 - Current
- Have projects from two Formula One teams – Renault F1 and Toyota F1. Both projects deal with the development of wear prediction models. 2004 - Current
